Cat litter and beads

Sort by:

At Us with pets you will find a large selection of cat litter and beads for your cat's litter box. Choose cat litter that absorbs liquids and odors, cat litter in beads or granules, or use wood pellets for the litter box if your cat prefers it. The right cat litter is the basis for your cat's cleanliness.

Tip: Try changing the type of cat litter if your cat does not want to use the litter box. Some cats prefer traditional cat litter, while others prefer wood or beads.

Which cat litter should I choose?

There are big differences between different types of cat litter in relation to how it smells and absorbs, and how it is for the cat to step on and dig in. Cats are creatures of habit, and therefore it would generally be a good idea to use this kind cat litter that the cat is used to. Typically, you can change brands, but it can be a bigger challenge to change from gravel to pearls or vice versa. Therefore, from the time the cat is a kitten, you should choose the type of cat litter that you want to use in the future.

If you buy an adult cat, you should inquire about the type of cat litter that the cat is used to using. It is quite stressful for a cat to change homes, and therefore you should basically stick to both the litter box and the type of cat litter that the cat knows and is used to using.

If you still want to change your adult cat's cat litter - perhaps because of odor nuisance - you should do it gradually. Start by mixing a little of the new cat litter into the old and then increase the amount of the new cat litter each time you change the litter box.

How often should you change cat litter?

The rule of thumb is first and foremost that you should have one litter box per cat in the household, so that the cats do not have to "wait their turn". This can lead to impurity. The litter boxes should also be placed in different places in the home.

Cats generally do not want to use a dirty litter box, as they are clean animals. Therefore, it is recommended to remove litter in the litter box at least 2-3 times a day - and preferably every time the cat has used the litter box. In addition, you should change all the cat litter 1-2 times a week.

When you fill the litter box with cat litter, you should fill it with 4-5 cm, so that the cat has something to dig in. Cats naturally want to cover their faeces after visiting the toilet, and they must be able to do that in the litter box.

Tip for the litter box

In addition to choosing a proper cat litter that does not dust too much and is good at absorbing both liquid and odor, here are a number of tips for the litter box that increase the chance of success for cleanliness:

  • Choose an open litter box; not all cats like to be "closed in" when they feed
  • Place the litter box in a quiet place and do not place several next to each other
  • The litter box should be at least 1.5 times the length of the cat
