At Us with pets you will find a huge selection of dog baskets, dog beds and mattresses. Your dog needs a place where he has his free space and where he can relax without distractions. That is why the dog basket is very important. Feel free to choose a dog basket or bed with sides that act as a shield, and a good mattress that gives the dog the comfort it deserves.
The dog basket must not be too big or too small. There must be room to turn around without problems, but the basket or mattress must also create security, so it must not be too large either.
Which dog bed should I choose?
The selection of dog beds, mattresses and baskets is enormous, and therefore it can be difficult as a dog owner to see what the best choice is. Should it be a plastic or fabric basket, or should it be a mattress - and if so, how big and thick should it be?
Both people and dogs are different, and you need to find a dog bed that matches the needs of both. A pillow or mattress can go in the washing machine (but risks releasing dog hair here), while a plastic basket can be wiped with a wet cloth. Some dogs love pillows and blankets and it can't get soft and cozy enough, while other dogs just want a place to retreat to without the need to dig down and snuggle. In general, it is typically the small dog breeds that choose coziness, and the large dog breeds that choose the simple, but of course there can be exceptions.
Choose the right size
The size of the dog bed is fortunately easy, as each single model typically comes in a minimum of 3 sizes that reflect the size of the dog. Here you choose the size that suits your dog. The basket must be neither too big nor too small; there must be room to turn around, but most dogs also prefer to be more easily enveloped when they sleep, and therefore the basket should not be too large. They can always be flattened on the floor - possibly on a carpet.
When choosing a basket or bed for a puppy, you must of course take into account that the puppy is growing. Buy a basket that reflects the dog's adult size and then make a temporary screen with pillows or blankets that can grow with the dog.
Cooling mat for hot days
A basket filled with pillows and blankets will naturally be extra warm when the weather is warm. Feel free to supplement the space with a more open one such as a carpet on the floor, and choose a cooling blanket or a cooling mat for the very hot days. Leave the basket still so that the dog can choose its fixed base, but place the cooling mat on the floor or in a shady place in the garden so that the dog can choose a cooler alternative if necessary.
